You are not alone, we can help you!

We understand

People with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)/ Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) find that activities they once took for granted take an enormous toll on their health. For example, a short stroll, coffee with a friend, getting their child ready for school or catching the train to work, which caused no fatigue before, is followed by unusual tiredness that takes longer than usual to go away.

Alongside the fatigue, people with CFS/ME can experience a range of symptoms from pain, headaches, dizziness, sleep issues, sensitivity to light and noise and food intolerances just to name a few.

CFS, like chronic pain and mental illness, is often invisible to the medical world. It can feel completely helpless. As a result most people with CFS also suffer from anger, depression and anxiety.

It can lead to issues in your personal life, such as change of roles at home, social life, and work life. It can be isolating and debilitating. For some people with ME/CFS, as time passes and their condition improves, they will find they can do more, but it is a slow and gradual process.

“After struggling with ME/CFS for over a year – having to give up my career, social life and active lifestyle i was referred to Anjelo through my insurer. Anjelo has a great holistic approach which has helped me hugely with my recovery. His approach is gentle and understanding and obviously gets the challenges of this illness where most people (even health professionals) don’t. I am now working part time, exercising regularly and have a social life, but all done in a sensible way and with a pacing approach so i don’t crash. Anjelo is still someone i call for advice on health and life and i am very lucky to have met him.”

Information on CFS/ME

What is it?

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) or Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) is a complex, neuroimmune condition that is complex. The term ‘myalgic encephalomyelitis’ means pain in the muscles, and inflammation in the brain and spinal cord. It affects the

  • Brain
  • Gastro-intenstinal system
  • Immune system
  • Endocrine and cardiac systems.

We don’t really know what causes it, and the primary symptom is overwhelming post-exertional tiredness with minimal cognitive, emotional or physical effort. Exhaustion may occur straight away or be delayed by hours or days.

There is a range of secondary symptoms to CFS/ME. These include:

  • Sleep issues;
  • Cognitive issues:  short term memory loss, poor concentration, ‘brain fog’, hypersensitivity to light and sound
  • Widespread pain and headaches;
  • Issues with body temperature and weight regulation
  • Problems with dizziness and balance
  • Drop in blood pressure
  • Recurrent flu-like symptoms (e.g. sore throat);
  • Gastrointestinal Problems (e.g. nausea, abdominal pain, bloating, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS))

Sensitivities to food, medications, odours or certain chemicals.There are many types of CFS/ME and symptoms, so the treatment needs to be catered to the individual; a particular treatment for one person can be catastrophic to another.

We know that psychological stress, childhood trauma, perfectionist personalities, low physical fitness, pre-existing psychological illness, and allergies may lead to the development of CFS/ME. High expectation of parents and family history may also lead to it.

Over 4,000 research articles have found that ME/CFS is associated with problems involving:

  • the body’s ability to produce and transport energy
  • the immune, neurological and hormonal systems
  • viral or other infections
  • blood pressure, the circulatory and cardiac systems
  • digestion
  • biochemical abnormalities.

For some people, the condition may be triggered suddenly by a viral infection, toxic exposure, anaesthetic, immunisation, gastroenteritis or severe trauma. In other people, ME/CFS may develop slowly over months or years.
